Dragon Ball Z begins with landing of a saiyan pod on the earth. When the door to the pod opens Radditz (Goku's older brother) steps out. After easily destroying of a farmer with his shotgun, Radditz turns on his scouter on discovers a strong ki reading, that of Piccolo's. Radditz then proceeds to fly towards Piccolo(Goku's ach rival).
We now see Goku flying on top of Flying Nimbus (a magic cloud) with his five year old son Gohan (first time we see Gohan). Goku is flying towards the Kame house, (Master Roshi's house) when he arrives Goku introduces Gohan to Master Roshi,(Goku's Trainer) Krillen,(his best friend) and Bulma. Meanwhile Radditz has just caught up to Piccolo, after a little talk, blocking Piccolo's ki shot and beating him up, Radditz flys off to find his brother 'Kakarot', Piccolo followes him.
Radditz arrives on Kame House and confront's his younger brother. Goku doesn't know who he is and asks what he's doing here. Radditz asks Goku why he hasn't prepared the Earth to be sold yet. He also reveals a secret that will change Dragonball forever, that Goku is a Saiyan (Saiya-jin). Goku defensively replys that he is an Earthling and he was raised on Earth, next Radditz finds out that Goku's tail was cut off (the true power behind a Saiyan) and that Goku injured his head when he was a baby and forgot his mission. Radditz asks if Goku wants to help him take over the world, which Goku denies. Outraged, Radditz kicks the crap out of Krillen and Goku and kidnaps Gohan. When Radditz leaves with Gohan. Piccolo then arrives at Kame house. He says that the only way Goku can beat Radditz is if he and Goku team up, Goku reluctantly accepts Piccolo's offer. Together they fly off the find Radditz and to rescue Gohan.
Goku and Piccolo arrive on scene to battle Radditz. Radditz just beats the crap out of Goku and Piccolo easily. During the fight Piccolo realizes that they can't beat Radditz hand-to-hand so he decides to power up his most powerful move, the Makankosappo (Special Beam Cannon). Piccolo charges up and fires it at Radditz which Radditz barely dodges it. Radditz then knocks Piccolo on the ground. When it looks like that the fight is over Goku grabs Radditz's tail causing severe pain to him. Goku has Radditz at his mercy but Radditz told Goku that he had a change of heart and Goku, being stupid let him go. Radditz then attacked Goku.
Meanwhile, Gohan, loced inside Radditz's spaceship, hearing his fathers cries gets all pissed off and breaks out and destroys Radditz's ship. Gohan flys twordes Radditz and breaks through his armor. This really pisses off Radditz and he focuses on Gohan, then Goku grabs Radditz from behind and puts him in a full nelson. Goku tells Piccolo to charge up another Makankosappo. Piccolo charges it up and fires it at Radditz, this time he gets a direct hit, the cannon goes through Radditz AND Goku..As Radditz dies, he overhears the plot to wish Goku back with these dragon balls, so Radditz uses his scouter to tell to other saiyans, Nappa and Vegita about the 7 magic dragon balls, they decide to travel to Earth the get the Dragonballs so that they can wish for immortality. This trip will take approximately one year to complete. After the fight, Piccolo takes Gohan for a year of training, until the saiyans arrive.
Krillen, Tien, Yamcha, and Chao-zu went to train under Kami-Sami, on Earth's lookout, Gohan traines under Piccolo. Goku, who died, goes to train the art of kaioken under King Kai, who lives on a small planet at the end of snake way. It takes him about 9 months or so to reach the end. Goku trains under King Kai until the Saiyans arrive. Goku also learns about his Saiyan heritage and about the ruthless nature of the Saiyan race.
Tien, Yamcha, Krillen and Caozu are training under Kami-Sama, during this time they enter a room which contains two Saiyans, after being horribly beat by them, they vanish. Finding out that it was only an illusion and that the Saiyans that are arriving to Earth are twice as strong as the two they fought. Earth's four fighters are determined to train even harder.
A year since the battle with Radditz. Vegita and Nappa finally arrive, Goku has been wished back to life by the Dragonballs, but has not shown up yet.. After the Saiyans destroy a city, they fly off to look for the strongest fighter on Earth, who is currently Piccolo.
The two Saiyans arrive to meet with Gohan and Piccolo who has just been joined by Krillen. Nappa and Vegita decide to have some fun, Nappa plants six seeds which almost instantly hatches into six green Saibamen. Just as the fighting starts to heat up Tien along with Chao-Zu arrives followed shortly by Yamcha. The Z fighters decide to go one on one against the Saibamen to buy the time needed so Goku can get back. While all of this is going one there is a TV crew filming the fight live and everyone is at the Kame house watching.
During the fight aone of the Saibamen self destructs or dose a Kamikazeattack one Yamcha.but all of the Saibamen are beaten eventually. Now it was Nappa's turn to fight. Nappa begins to fight against Tien first, during the fight nappa cuts of Tien arm. Chao-Zu then jumps into the fight and attaches himself to Nappa's back. Chao-Zu tries to end the fight by self-destructing, but dosn't even faze Nappa. This enrages Tien and he gives it one last effort to beat Nappa with one arm.It fails as well. After Tien's defeat Piccolo and Krillen split in to three people and attack Nappa, but Nappa resists and beat them up also. Seeing his friends get beat up by Nappa Gohan throws a very strong ki blast at Nappa which Nappa barely blocks. This pisses off Nappa and he shoots an even stronger ki blast at Gohan. It looks like the end for Gohan when Piccolo jumps bettween Gohan and the blast and takes the hit mortally wounding him. Before his death, Piccolo tells that Gohan has changed himm, and that he is no longer a evil person. With Krillen down and Gohan the only one left, Nappa is about to win this fight when Goku finally arrives at the battlefield.
Goku, who has a senzu bean with him gives half to Krillen and another half to Gohan. Hearing that everyone was killed by Nappa really gets to Goku. Goku easily kicks Nappa arouned. Nappa inraged startes toattack Gohan. This really pisses of Goku, who uses his KaioKen x1 to speed up, power up, and hit Nappa before he hit Gohan, The hit fom Goku knocks Nappa in front of Vegita. Seeing his partner down Vegita who hasn't down anything yet, throws Nappa in the air and blowes him up. Anyway, the main event has finally come, Vegita versus Goku. Goku tells Gohan and Krillen to leave the battlefield which they do, by themselves now, Goku powers up to prepare to fight Vegita.
The fight between Goku and Vegita is pretty evenly matched, that is until Goku starts to use his kaioken technique (it is a spescial power up where use more enegy at once, but the effect only last for a little while and the more of your energy ypu use all at once the more it hurts you). This gives Goku the advantage, and he starts to beat up on Vegita. Vegita sensing that he is losing to a 3rd class Saiyan tries to blow up the Earth but Goku blocks it blast with a kaioken x4 kamehameha. This really pisses off Vegita and he decides to change form, which he has never had to do. He artificially creates moonlight which causes him to turn in to an Oozaru and increasing his power level 10 times. Vegita then proceeds to kick the crap out of Goku, who is allready worn out fron the kaioken x4. Meanwhile, Gohan and Krillen has decided to fly back to the battle area to see how Goku's doing.
Goku is seriosly loseing the fight against Oozaru Vegita when he tries to creat a Genki Daime or Spirit Bomb, Gohu collects all the energy he needs and is getting redy to form it when attacked by Vegita. Goku loses the power he gathered. Vegita grabes Goku with his huge hand and is squizzing Goku to death when Gohan and Krilllen arrive Gohan desracts Vegita and Krillen creats a destructo disk to cut of his tail. So Krillen throws it and at the last second Vegita moves, telling that his Oozaru ears can hear any thing. Yajirobe, a sword bearing friend of the Z team, and a coward who was hiding the entire time gets up inough courage and cuts off Vegita's tail causing Vegita to transform back to his Saiyan form. Vegita, ready to find and kill who ever cut of his tail is attacked by Gohan. This buys enough time for Goku to give the energy that was left from the failed Genki Daime (Spirit Bomb) to Krillen. He tells Krillen to wait until the moment is right to throw the bomb. When Krillen gets that flashing feeling he knows the time is right so he throws the ball at Vegeta. Krillen gets out there and dosn't know whene to throw it, King Kai telepatheclly tells Krillen when. Vegeta however, dodges the ball just in the nick of time. The bomb is now headed strait for Gohan, but Goku tells Gohan that he can block the ball and reflect it if his heart is pure. Gohan does reflect the ball and this time the Spirit Bomb makes contact with Vegita blasting him way in to the sky.
However; Vegeta is not defeated, Vegita is able to move out of the way of the bomb and he falls back down to Earth. When he lands he is very weak but is still strong enough to beat up Krillen, Gohan and Goku. He charges up him energy and uses a fimal flash. All seems lost but somehow Gohan's tail growes back, Vegeta looks on shock as Gohan glances at the artificial light that Vegita created and turns Oozaru. In this form, Gohan is out of contoll and destroying everything around him and is able to get a couple of shots on Vegita. Even though Gohan has no idea what he is doing. Gohan jumps way up in the air and is going to land on Vegita. Vegita shots a Destructo Disk and manages to cut off Gohan's tail but Gohan lands on top of Vegita before he is regular size agian. After Gohan to normal, we see Vegita lying on the ground beaten up very bad. Bruised and beaten Vegeta tries to climb back into his spaceship but is stopped by Krillen holding Yajirobe's sword. Goku tells Krillen to let Vegita go as he has learned his lesson, and we woldn't want to stoop to his level. Vegita climbs into his spaceship, tells Krillen he will be back to kill him and flies off.
After the fight Master Roshi, Bulma, and Chi-chi arrive to the battlefield inside one of the capsule corp. planes to bring Goku, Gohan and Krillen back home. The End (of the Saiyan Saga)
